About Tako no Ma

Exterior of the traditional Japanese house where the Takonoma takoyaki experience takes place, located in a quiet neighborhood of Sumiyoshi, Osaka.

Welcome to Tako no Ma

Tako no Ma is a cozy takoyaki cooking experience held in a 70-year-old Japanese home in Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka.
Join us to cook your own takoyaki, relax in a traditional tatami room, and enjoy a warm, nostalgic taste of Japanese home life.

The Space

Our experience takes place in a traditional Japanese house built in 1954.
Inside, you’ll find a tatami room with a tokonoma (an alcove used to display seasonal items) and shoji screens made with washi paper.
It’s simple, nostalgic, and full of charm.

Tako no Ma is not a studio or commercial kitchen—it’s a quiet, lived-in space that makes you feel right at home.

You might notice a few little holes in the shoji screens—probably from curious kids in the past poking their fingers through. (Oops!)
But that’s just part of the charm of an old Japanese house.

Why Takoyaki?

Takoyaki isn’t just food—it’s part of everyday life in Osaka.
In many homes, people gather around the table to cook and eat together, sharing laughs and stories.
Tako no Ma is a place where you can experience that same feeling—no matter where you’re from.

We truly believe that our takoyaki is the most delicious in Japan—not because it’s fancy, but because it’s made with care, top-quality ingredients, and a warm spirit.
From the rice bran oil to the handmade dashi and Akashi octopus, every element is chosen with love.

And here’s something special—at home in Japan, takoyaki isn’t always perfect.
It might be a little uneven or messy sometimes, and that’s totally fine!
That’s actually what makes it fun, and full of heart.

The Meaning of “Tako no Ma”

In Japanese, “Tako” means octopus, and “Ma” means a space or room.
“Tako no Ma” is our way of saying, “a space for takoyaki” — a cozy room where you can slow down, cook together, and enjoy simple things.

Whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, whether you’ve cooked before or not—you’re welcome here.
Let’s make takoyaki together, chat, laugh, and make a memory in Osaka.
