Join a hands-on takoyaki class in a 70-year-old Japanese home in Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka – the same area as Nagai Park and Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine.
Welcome to Tako no Ma

Tako no Ma is a cozy cooking experience held in a 70-year-old traditional Japanese home,
Nestled in a quiet neighborhood of Sumiyoshi, Osaka.
Here, you’ll enjoy making and eating takoyaki – one of Japan’s most beloved home-style dishes –
Using authentic ingredients like dashi broth, soy sauce, and octopus from Akashi.
In Japan, it’s common to enjoy takoyaki with friends and family in a “Takopa” – a takoyaki party.
Just like a backyard BBQ, it’s all about sharing good food and good times together.
We hope you’ll relax, have fun, and enjoy the flavors and spirit of Japanese home cooking.
We’re so happy to make takoyaki with you. Let’s enjoy it together!
About the Experience

At Tako no Ma, you’ll make takoyaki using a pre-prepared batter. You’ll pour it into the pan, add ingredients, and flip each ball to perfection.
No experience is necessary. We’ll guide you step by step, so you can enjoy the process, even if it’s your first time.
You’ll use high-quality Japanese ingredients and a traditional cast-iron takoyaki pan. Everyone gets to make their own – just like a real “Takopa” at home.
The experience takes place in a traditional tatami room inside a 70-year-old Japanese home. It’s not just a cooking class – it’s a cozy, local experience you’ll remember.
Takonoma’s takoyaki is the ultimate flavor — perfectly homemade.

Takonoma’s takoyaki might just be the best you’ll ever have.
Not because we say so — but because every element that makes something delicious is here.
We use premium ingredients, perfectly balanced seasoning, and a cooking method that brings out the best in every bite.
Everything is set up for this to be amazing.
But what truly makes it special… is you.
You cook it yourself. You laugh, you flip, you enjoy every moment.
That joy becomes part of the flavor — and that’s something no restaurant can replicate.
You’re welcome to try takoyaki from a famous shop first.
But when you taste ours, you might just go… “Oh.”
(And we’ll be smiling, because we knew that’d happen.)
Our Ingredients

We carefully select Japanese ingredients to give you the most authentic takoyaki flavor.
Our dashi is made from high-quality kombu and katsuobushi, and we use premium soy sauce and flour produced in Japan. The octopus comes from Akashi, a city famous for its delicious seafood.
As an alternative to octopus, we also offer takoyaki made with grilled kuroge wagyu beef tendon.

For vegetarian guests, we offer a special version made with dried tomato and shiitake mushrooms.

Our Home

Tako no Ma is held in a traditional Japanese house that was built in 1954.
Inside, you’ll find a tatami room with a tokonoma (an alcove used to display seasonal items) and a shoji screen made with washi paper. It’s simple, nostalgic, and full of charm.
You might notice a few little holes in the shoji screens—probably from curious kids in the past poking their fingers through. (Oops!) But that’s just part of the charm of an old Japanese house.
The space is kindly shared with us by TAKA-san, the owner-chef of a sushi restaurant called “22 Kailua” in Hawaii.
We’re borrowing this lovely home to offer the experience—so please treat it gently, like you would a friend’s place.
We want you to feel like you’re visiting a Japanese friend’s home – not a tourist attraction.
